Keywords : Acton, Politics

A BILL to compel manufacturers to include in the quoted price of their vehicles the cost of such "extras" as number plates, seat belts and delivery charges, was introduced into the Commons last week.

Sir George Young (Tory, Acton) who put forward the measure, said he knew of no other commodity which was advertised in such a misleading and offensive way.

The industry was clearly reluctant to introduce realistic advertising voluntarily, said Sir George, and so he hoped that his Bill would receive support from both sides of the House.
