Ralph Bennett, 46, a member of London Transport Executilfe since 1968, is to succeed Anthony Bull as deputy chairman when the latter retires on May 31. Mr Bennett's salary will be £13,500. Starting his career with Plymouth City
Transport, Mr Bennett later saw service as general manager at Great
Yarmouth, becoming transport manager to Manchester City Transport in 1965. As a member of the LTE he has been responsible for the bus operating, planning, marketing and commercial departments. Sir Richard Way, chairman of the Executive, has also designated Mr Bennett as managing director, buses. Another member of the Executive. R. M. Robbins, has been designated managing director, railways.
Sir Reginald Wilson, deputy chairman of the Transport Development Group, has been elected to succeed William Fraser as chairman with effect from July 1, 1971. Mr Fraser will continue as a director but will be spending more of his time in Australia in connection with the flotation and development there of the TDG's new holding company, of which he will be chairman and chief executive. J. D. Lockhart, 37, has been appointed as an additional director. Mr Lockhart is at present m.d. of the Group holding company for Scotland.
P. W. Ward, managing director of Co-Ordinated Traffic Services Ltd, a member company of the £50m Mitchell Cotts Group, is on a one-month Australian visit, Mr Ward will study the Group's transport companies in Sydney and Melbourne.
R. S. Forster, licensing officer with Crosville Motor Services Ltd, Crane Wharf, Chester, will be leaving the company at the end of May. Mr Forster has been with Crosville for 43 years, and licensing officer for the past 17 years.
A. Welch, transport manager for Sheffield and Eccleshall Co-op Society, has been elected secretary of the National Cooperative Traffic Managers' Association for the 15th successive year. Chairman is William Topping, of Invicta CWS, Dartford, and vice-chairman P. W. Chapman, traffic manager of CRS Bath and West Co-op Society.
Sir Humphrey Browne, 60, has been appointed chairman of the British Transport Docks Board. Sir Humphrey was deputy chairman of the National Coal Board from 1960 to 1967, and is deputy chairman of the Woodall-Duckham Group. He was chairman, John Thompson Ltd, 1967-1970.
F. A. S. Wood, chairman and managing director of Croda International Ltd, has been appointed a part-time £1000 a year member of the National Bus Company.
