Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Following convictions at Cardiff magistrates' court in February (CM February 12) when British Road Services Ltd was. fined a total of £460 including costs for breaches of regulations concerning the keeping of records, the company appeared before the South Wales LA at Cardiff last

week under Section 69.

For the DoE, Mr R. S. Chardsaid the company was before the LA on three counts; failing to sign and examine record sheets, weight infringements and vehicle prohibitions. He said that in October 1970 an examination of drivers' records at Newport took place and through this it was found that offences had occurred in the number of hours worked under the Act. As a result 20 charges were preferred against BRSL and 39 charges against the drivers concerned.

There were three convictions for overloading on record, one at Newport in June 1970 and two at Newbury, Berks, in October and November 1970. There were also two GV9s issued in 1970.

For BRSL Mr Norman Lloyd-Edwards said he appreciated that for any operator to

be before the LA was extremely serious a so far as his client was concerned the mat was considered more seriously than MI because of the company's size and scope.

Referring to the drivers' records, 1 Lloyd-Edwards said that men were usi trains to travel to Dover to pick up th loads and when they filled in their log she they entered the time they got into the lor not taking into account the time of travelli by train.

The LA, Mr R. R. Jackson, said that would be a stupid decision to suspe vehicles for a limited period of time for operator with a large margin on its kerb His decision was, therefore, to delete t margin of the 0 licence. The LA a decided to suspend the licences of t drivers for one week.
