Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WHEN Mr. J. E. Sisson applied to the East Midland Licensing Authority, last week, for permission to operate a service for workers between Nottingham and Boughton Ordnance Depot, a spokesman for Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., described his price

as " irresponsible fare-cutting." Mr. Sisson's estimate for the service was £4 3s. 8d. a day, against £5 8s. by Trent.

Mr. S. Ferry, Trent's traffic manager. said that even with the economic advantages of a large fleet, their average costs were Is. 8d. a mile. The figure of Is. lid. a mile was unrealistic, he said. Ninepence of that was needed for drivers' wages alone.

Whilst hc did not agree -with the charge of irresponsible price-cutting, the Deputy Licensing Authority, Mr. D. Cotes Preedy, said he found it impossible to accept the figures. "We are convinced that the figures which the Trent Traction Co. put forward are fair and reasonable." he said.
