Szlumper, C.B.E., chairman of th2 premises committee, Mr. S. Kennedy, honorary treasurer and chairman of th2 finance and establishment committee, and others, and opened the entrance gates with an inscribed key presented to him by Mr. Howard Lobb. F.R.I.B.A.. the architect.

Mr. Royle recalled that the Institute's first annual report showed a membership of 652. The 8,000 mark had now been passed and at the forthcoming examinations for graduateship and associate membership, some 1,200 candidates would present themselves.

Mr. Royle announced that Sir Frederick Handley Page, who launched the appeal for funds from which the building was bought, had been admitted to honorary membership.

The building was once the home of Admiral Lord Jellicoe, and later that of Mr. Mark Ostrer, the film magnate.
