The L.M.S. Railway announces that toll charges at Connel Bridge, which spans Loch Etive at Connel Ferry, Argyll, and which carries the Ballachulish branch line and the road across Loch Etive, have been substantially reduced as from May I. The new scale is about 50 per cent. lower. It was anticipated that there would be a reduction, following. the .recent opening of the view ferry at Bonawei sbe miles east of Connel Bridge. .
Vans engaged in local trades, which were formerly debarred from using the bridge, will now be able to use it for a fee of five guineas a year.
Licence Revocations for Speeding ?
A warning that drivers must be allowed reasonable time for their journeys was given to several haulage contractors by Mr. Henry Riches, Northern Scotland Licensing Authority, at Dundee. Commenting on convictions for speeding, he said that if it turned out that operators were not allowing sufficient time he would have to consider whether they were proper persons to hold licences.
Goods A.B.C. Reaches Second Edition.
Containing details of the services of over 800 hauliers, operating from 300 base towns, the second edition of "The Goods by Road (Transport) A.B.C." has just been published at 2s. 6d. by the Transport Publishing Co., 38, John Bright Street, Birnaingham, I. It comprises 146 pages, and there are over 5,000 separate references in the index.
1930 Mercedes-Benz Wanted.
Messrs. Truscott Bros., Rillarmil, Callington, Cornwall, wish to purchase a 20-seater Mercedes-Benz to obtain spare .parts for maintaining two similar
vehicles. The model required is a 1930 type, N46. Main Lines, Ltd., once operated this type.
Holland Coachcraft Expansion Scheme.
Holland C,oachcraft, Ltd., Glasgow. claims to be the first concern in the motor trade to occupy a factory on the new Government-fostered NorthEastern Trading Estate, at Team Valley, Gateshead-on-Tyne. Mr. W. H. Holland has, hitherto, confined his activities to design, and his streamlined bodies for commercial vehicles have been a feature of his activities. He has now decided to enter the field of production, concentrating his attention on the Midland, Northern and Scottish markets. The new factory will have an area of 20,000 sq. ft, and the layout will be planned to maintain -a. flow of work on mass-production lines.
ASO . 32nd W.D. Order for Guys.
The War Department has recently placed its 32nd order with Guy Motors, Ltd., for a further 151 3-5-ton rigid six-wheeled vehicles, which follows a contract for 205 similar machines, which is at present being executed.
