Traffic reports

• AA Vodafone Roadwatch has launched a travel and traffic information service with congestion reports being sent in by a fleet of bikers. The information will be broadcast on 32 radio stations throughout the UK including Classic FM and Talk Radio UK.

Information hotline

• Increasing interest in young driver training schemes and qualifications has prompted the Road Haulage and Distribution Training Council (RHDTC) to set up a hotline for employers giving information on the RHDTC's work and responsibility.

Contact: 01923 858484. III The RHDTC is also to set up a government-backed scheme for training young drivers. The Young WV Driver Training Scheme has support from the DOT, RHA and FTA and is open to 18-21 year olds in full employment.

• The Association of British Insurers has published its latest list of approved security devices and installers who have been approved by the Vehicle Security Installation Board. A total of 197 systems and 650 installers have now been given approved status.

Portable power

• Oxfordshire-based Merlin Equipment has developed a power inverter that converts battery power into 23V AC mains electricity The PROwatt DC to AC range of inverter allows drivers to run computers, test equipment, power tools, printers, lighting or television sets without a mains hook up or generator.

• Forecourt services company: Avery Berkel has launched a fuel controller system for small fleet operators. The Auditor Ft system has been designed for companies with fleets of around ten vehicles and gives information on fuel use and stock levels.

Oil buster

• Royston-based Oil Cleaning Bio-Products is launching a range of

bacterial cleansers, degreasers and absorbents for forecourt and garage use. Products in the "F-leg" range are non-toxic, non-corrosive and biodegradable and can be used on spills of petrol, diesel and motor oils on concrete around pumps, fuel delivery points and drains and in workshops.
