• Prestwick-based Airfield Equipment Services (AES) has doubled its workforce in five months and is described by BAA chairman Sir Norman Payne as "a success story in action".
AES was set up with 16 people in October following the installation of an £85,000 spray booth which is the largest in West Scotland. Now it employs 32 and offers specialist vehicle refurbishment.
It will take on six apprentices this year.
Routine maintenance and repair work is still carried out, but the specialist vehicle work has attracted the attention of several manufacturers of such equipment.
