F. K. Pointon, 48, an executive director of the National Bus Company, has been elected chairman of the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co. Ltd., with 1,700 vehicles the NBC's largest subsidiary company. Mr. Pointon. the managing director since 1968, succeeds Sir Reginald Wilson, the recently appointed chairman of the National Freight Corporation. Mr. Pointon joined the executive staff of the BET Federation at the beginning of 1961. In 1967 he became chairman of the Potteries Motor Traction Co. Ltd. W. H. Bolt has been appointed assistant engineer of Yorkshire Traction Co. Ltd. as from April 1. Mr. Bolt, who is Gateshead district superintendent engineer with the Northern General Transport Co. Ltd.. will succeed R. J. Hawkins, who is taking up a position with Bristol Omnibus Co. Ltd.

Keith Morton, 30. has been appointed Press officer—vehicle and industrial engines, of the Perkins Diesel Group. He succeeds Paul Mowforth who has become public relations publications manager.

Derek R. Clarke has been appointed Southern area engineer, 8RS Parcels Ltd., with effect from

March 24.

Robert S. Lennox has been appointed training officer to the Bradley Transport Group and will be based at the Accrington head office. Mr. Lennox has been engaged in training activities for over 20 years both in Britain and overseas. He has held similar posts with the Philips Group. Venner Ltd. and Top Rank.

James Crichton has been appointed managing director of Rothes Transport Co. Ltd., Balgarvie Road, Cupar, Fife.

J. Jackson has been appointed production manager, vehicles, Scammell Lorries Ltd. Mr. Jackson was previously quality control manager. F. Attwood has rejoined Scammell as quality control manager. Freddie ("Spider") Webb who joined the firm in • 1921 as a coachbuilder, has retired as body-shop superintendent.

L. Buckley has been elected chairman of the FTA's Potteries area: K. Beardmore is deputy chairman, A. E. Booth vice-chairman, J. Martin secretary.

Reginald Watson, 52, traffic superintendent with Teesside Municipal Transport, has been appointed transport manager at Darwen, Lancashire Mr. Watson was deputy general manager of Teesside Railless Traction Board for 10 years.

S. B. King has retired from his haulage business of Sid King and Son, Ltd., Ellington. Hunts, which has been taken over by Bedfordia Plant Ltd.. Oakley. Bedford. G. T. Burling has been appointed to take charge of the Ellington depot.

E. R. L. Fitzpayne, general manager of Glasgow Corporation Transport, who is due to retire in April. is expected to be asked to carry on for a further period not exceeding six months. A proposal to this effect was put to a meeting of the sub-committee on transport at the week-end and goes forward to the full committee for ratification.
