nESPITE strong objections by the British Transport Commission, the Chard Transport Co., Ltd., were last week granted six additional A-licence vehicles by the Western Licensing Authority, Mr. S. W. Nelson. They had applied for nine, offering to surrender three existing A-licence vehicles and six on 13 licence (The Commercial Motor, February 21). . Mr. Ivor Scannel, commercial representative for British Road Services' Poole-Yeovil Group, claimed that he had plenty of vehicles available in both towns to cater for any extra traffic. He had received no complaints from customers and was able to give an efficient service. After undergoing a long crossexamination by Mr. T. D. Corpe, for the applicants, Mr. Scannel was congratulated by Mr. Nelson on the way he had answered the questions. "II all servants look after B.R.S. as you have done today it speaks well for them," said Mr. Nelson. "I hope I shall have the pleasure of both seeing and hearing you again." Mr. Archibald Brooks, representing the Southern Region of British Railways, pointed out that there were three stations at Chard, and the facilities being offered were not fully used. The grant was made on condition that . two contract-A vehicles ad three on 13 licence were surrendered.
