A Body which Enables the Ton Chassis to be Used for Goods or Passengers.

THERE ARE ,awbacks the vehicle is complete, and is without the

dr majority of convertible body appearance of being a converted job. vehicles which are, more or leas, antThe first two of its uses are, of course, very similar and easily convertible, and it would be difficult to detect that the vehicle could be used lin any ether form, were it not for the existence of the char-a-hancs mounting step, which is folded neatly out of the way.. For converting to a coach, the side and'tailbaards are detached, and, by undoing a few nuts, the upper part of the driver's canopy is vemoved. The eh-sr:A.-banes body, complete with hood, is then run an from the back and bolted in position. The side panels of the coach body extend well below the floor, and all traces of the vehiole hating been employed for any other than coach work are obscured.

The rear part of the body weighs only cwt. approximately, and the complete conversion can he carried out in under 15 nr'nutes. .Messrs. Kane inform WE weighed by their aavantages. For instance, if the vehicle is of the fixed-body type, with .collapsable or removable seats, its_appearance for char-a-bancs use is apt to suffer from its employment at other times for rough haulage; and if the rear parts of the body are. interchangeable, the vehicle, when used as a char-6;-bane,s, has an unsightly driver's canopy in trout of the passengens; or, if this is dispensed with, it is equally unpleasant for the driver as a lorry_ James Kane; Ltd., of Kyrwicks Lane, Sparkbeoak, Rirmingliam, have patented and produced a convertible lorry-ehar-abanns body, which they claim to be without these usrial attendant disadvantages. It can be made for any chassis, but the model on whicit the company are at present concentrating -is suitable for a, 1 ton Ford. It can be used in three types---(1) a flat platform lorry with driver's canopy, (2) s lorry with dropclown tail and sides and with driver's canopy, and (3) a 14-seater char-a-banes with one-rnan hood. In each case the

tha-t two of their men have, in fact, completed the operation in 8 minutes. Seating acco-mmotlation for 14 passengers is provided as follows : Four in the rear seat, two in each of the four double seats, two of which are placed on each side of the central gangway, and two beside the driver. The one-man hood, when raised, provides complete protection. The rear seat has a spring squab, €arshiens and padded back rests being p:.oviclecl for the other seats. Entrance for the 12 passengers in the rear of the body is through a do ar on the near side. One of the advantages is the low price. An., ordinary 1 ten Ford lorry, with driver's canopy, can be converted for SAGO; whilst .C175 is the coat of fitting up the Ford ohaasis as a three-purpose vehicle. A special body, with flush sides and scuttle dash, costs £.200.
