The 21st report of the city surveyor of Adelaide, South Australia. states that the motor lorries in the service of the corporation have again exceeded the previous year's mileage. One Commer Car in service ran .8,610 miles during the year ended September 30th, 1921. and coneumed 856 gallons of petrol, 42 gallone of oil, and 40 lb. of grease, the total cost of operation beine 1405, the cost per mile, including wages, being 11.3d. A second Commer Car lorry ran -6,860 miles at a total cost of 1353, or a cost per mile of -12.3d. A Thornycroft vehicle which ran 6.980 miles consumed 700 gallons of petrol, 35 gallons of oil; and 47 lb. of grease, and cost 1346 to run, or 11.9d. per mile.
The corporation has an electricallydriven broom, which has only been in 136 commission during early morning hours. The principal drawback with this machine is that of the economic maintenance of the batteries, the present set having been in use 4e years.
