ANDY BOYLE HAS described picking up his OBE for services to the transport industry as an “incredible experience”.
The MD at ABE Ledbury and former chairman of the Road Haulage Association (RHA) received the honour from the Prince of Wales in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace last Thursday (31 May).
Boyle, who wore a top hat and morning suit for the occasion, was accompanied by his wife and two daughters.
He tells CM: “It was an honour to have been awarded it in the first place, and an incredible experience to pick it up. When you are at the palace you are aware of the fabulous surroundings – it’s not something you get to experience every day of the week.” About 100 people received awards in a ceremony Boyle describes as being organised with “military precision”.
He adds: “Prince Charles said something like ‘oh do you drive those things [trucks]’, to which I replied ‘yes, I sometimes do’. The prince then made a comment along the lines of ‘I don’t know how you keep awake’.”
