Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• An HGV driver whose income fell after he hurt his back when he slipped on some grease has accepted £26,000 in an out-of-court settlement.

Godfrey Langshaw, 49, slipped on the grease as he stepped from his vehicle, the court heard.

He fell and fractured his coccyx, and although he still works as a lorry driver, he is unfit for better paid longdistance and Continental work.

Langshaw, of Shenfield Gardens, Shenfield, Essex, had sought damages for negligence against Texaco, after the accident on 30 November 1984.

Langshaw, who works for Wincanton Transport, was visiting the defendant company's site at Btmcefield, Hemel Hempstead when he fell.

Now he suffers pain in the base of his spine, which gets worse after bending or prolonged spells behind the wheel.

The injury also aggravated a degenerative disease in his spine, from which he is unlikely to recover.

Approving the settlement at the High Court, Mr Justice Boreham ordered Texaco to pay costs.
