Industry sources state that the TNT takeover of Abbey I fill is certain, and the price will probably be around 28 million.
With the move, TNT will take on Abbey Hill's Alfa Romeo, Colt, Vauxhall-Opel and BMW contracts and its 200-plus car transporters. Jones says that the fate of Abbey Hill's few Iveco dealerships has not yet been decided.
Abbey Hill was delivered a damaging blow recently with the loss of its Fiat contract to the Toleman Group, and there have been reports that Abbey Hill owner Roger Bastable is disillusioned with the industry.
Jones says he is pleased with the prospect of the deal: "It's a good fit with us. We're a big automotive parts carrier and it is a big car transporter company."
