• The first production 7.5name GVW Electric Roadrunner has been bought by Southern Electricity.

The 3.25m wheelbase chassis is fitted with a Horsemaster alloy van body and will be used on delivery work in the West London and South Bucks area. It joins Southern Electricity's existing 73-strong electric vehicle fleet.

Conversion to battery traction was carried out by W & E Vehicles of Shrewsbury which previously produced the Elec tric Terrier model. The controller, motor and other components are supplied by Lucas Chloride EV Systems. The Electric Roadrunner has range of 80km (50 miles) — between charges — and a toi speed in excess of 64km/h (40mph).

Southern Electricity previously operated an Electric Terrier model in trials ru by the Department of Trade and Industry.
