• Freightliner, British Rail's road/rail container carrier, has appointed Oliver Potter to its board as a non-executive director.
Potter — a physical distribution consultant — is chairman of Logistics International, a management consultancy company specialising in logistics and distribution.
Between 1976 and 1985 he was managing director of London Carriers, the physical distribution division of Philips Electronics, where his responsibilities included UK storage and distribution plus all functions relating to imports and exports.
Before 1976 he spent over 20 years with Tate and Lyle in such different management roles as managing director of Tate and Lyle Transport Group (which included Silver Roadways).
• Well-known international transport specialist Peter Rothschild, formerly of MAT Transport, has joined road and rail container carrier Freightliner, as that company's representative in Belgium. based in Brussels.
Rothschild has spent his 40-year career in transport.
