Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Large portable weighbridges with a new design of lever system are now being offered by Ashworth Ross and Co. Ltd. They will handle the larger and heavier vehicle permitted by the latest regulations and are available in platform sizes of 35ft by 10ft, 4laft by 10ft, 45ft by 10ft and 50ft by 10ft; all are of 40-tons capacity.

The equipment is for use at sites where ground conditions are not suitable for below-surface permanent structures—particular uses are in sand and gravel pits. With the new design the platform completely overlaps the frame, which ensures that rain water and spillage from vehicle loads falls free of the weighing mechanism. The risk of weighing inaccuracies occurring is therefore substantially reduced.

The all-steel lever system comprises four main pipe levers which transmit the load to two intermediate levers. These in turn couple up to the final transfer lever. The load-carrying structure consists of four fabricated steel transoms and six main girders. These are fitted with tapered dowels to locate the platform which is in 5ft sections and thus easily remov able. Several types of dial and steelyard indicators are available including the weighprinter which records on multiple copies with electronic "stop-fraud" protection.

Made by: Ashworth Ross and Co. Ltd., PO Box 5, Scout Hill, Dewsbury, Yorks.

Prices: From £3,000 to £5,000 according to size and type of indicator.
