Institution of Automobile Enrealize that the motor gineers. industry deserves en couragement, but it has now discouraged users by a drastic increase of 7d. on oil fuel, whilst Germany was remitting the tax on new vehicles and building fine roads, with the result that, during the past year, the sale of German motors was almost doubled. There were signs that our Government is at last realizing the importance of a good road system, but it should plan for the millions of motor vehicles which would be operating 25 years hence. He suggested the value of a world-wide system of roads financed by international funds.

Mr. C. R. F. Engelbach (Past President, gave the toast of "The Guests." He much amused the company by making certain quotations from Shakespeare, which, seemingly, had a motoring interest. Responses were made by Mr. L. J. Kaye on behalf of • Alfred Herbert, Ltd., and Madame Maurice Berger. Mr. Kaye referred to kindred trades which benefited by motor ing. He mentioned that one motor manufacturer in Coventry uses every week a mile of carpet and 3,000 hides.

This year's tour was undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable and insructive functions organized by the Institution.
