• Drivers hours offences have cost Norbert Dentress angle driver Hubert Mollett £665 in fines and costs.

Mollett, of Avignon Les St Claude, Jura, pleaded guilty by letter to exceeding the daily driving limit and taking insufficient daily rest. Rochdale Magistrates Court heard that Monett was driving a Renault artic belonging to TRO, a division of Norbert Dentres.sangle, when he was stopped in a check at the Thornham Island weighbridge.

An examination of Mollett's tacho charts showed he had started work in Dijon at 08:20hrs French time and finished at 06:20hrs the following day A total of 13hrs 14min driving was shown. The maximum rest in the 24-hour period was 31u3min, which appeared to have been

taken on a cross-Channel ferry.

Heaton said the charts showed a grave breach of the drivers' hours regulations by the driver of a laden 38-tonne artic. The regulations existed for the promotion of road safety so that tired drivers were not behind the wheel of large goods vehicles.

The magistrates fined Mollett £590 with £75 costs.
