• Volvo's bid to distribute to parts few other truck and bus manufacturers can reach was given fresh impetus this week when it signed an agreement with Isuzu Motors of Japan.
The manufacturers are to study the feasibility of distributing Volvo trucks in Japan.
The aim is that Isuzu will import and distribute the Swedish vehicles in Japan before the end of the year. Next to the USA and Europe, Japan is the largest truck market in the world.
In a joint statement, Sten Langenius, president of Volvo Trucks Corporation, and Kazuo Tobiyama, president of Isuzu Motors, said: "A co-operation will benefit both companies. It will strengthen Isuzu's product offering in Japan and will give Volvo access to the important Japanese truck market.
Continuous discussion may also result in co-operation in other areas".
