• Denis Quin is stepping down as director-general of the Bus and Coach Council after 14 years. He was previously director and secretary of the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association for eight years.
Quin's early retirement opens a new chapter in the BCC's policy-book and may be seen as a victory for members who have recently called for dramatic changes at the council's headquarters.
In May the BCC came under strong attack from 30 of its members who said it was not providing value for money (CM 26 May-1 June). The dissidents called for an immediate review of the subscription structure, saying that the 215.50 fee per vehicle on top of the flat company rate of £30 was too high.
