• Perkins PowerPak's new approach of commercially intergrating engines with transmissions was announced at the recent BAEE '88.
The system couples the vee12, vee-eight and turbocharged vee-eight Phaser engines with a range of gearboxes. British Challenger, MkIII, and Warrior tanks use the Condor engines and the system is thriving also in overseas markets including India, Venezuela and Egypt.
In addition there are 4,500 Alvis Ferret scout cars for Phaser diesel/Chrysler A727 conversion at home and abroad, and Perkins is also building certain Allison transmissions under licence.
