John Dean replaces John Elliott

JOHN DEAN of the British Steel Corporation has been elected new Chairman of the British Shippers' Council. He succeeds John Elliott of Metal Box who has held the post for the last three years.

Mr Dean is steel shipments manager at British Steel and has held this post since 1974. He joined Durham Steel and Iron Co. in 1959 and after nationalisation in 1967 was appointed transport manager at Skinningrove Works. After a brief period in 1970 as transport manager at North Tees Works, he was appointed transport liaison officer for BSC's general steels division until 1984.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport and a Fellow of the Society of Shipping Executives. He is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Transport Administration. He represents the British Steel Corporation on the European Steel Makers Freight Committee and the British Shippers' Council on the Bulk/Tramp Committee of the European Shippers' Council. He is a member of the SITPRO

ALAN McKAY has been appointed chief engineer of the Wolverhampton based Spicer Transmissions Division. Dana Limited, manufacturers of transmissions for commercial and off highway vehicles.

Mr McKay moves to Spicer from Leyland trucks where he was chief engineer with responsibilities for transmission components. He joined Leyland in 1978 and was based at their Albion plant near Glasgow before moving to Leyland, Lancashire, in 1981. Prior to 1978, he was with Bedford Commercial Vehicles for 11 years.
