Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Following the introduction on June 27 of the new Construction and Use Regulations concerning goods vehicle weights and dimensions, all Volvo FB models (sixwheelers) with wheelbases of 134in. and over are now being delivered plated at 24 tons gvw.

For those FBs already in service conversion kits, comprising new road springs and additional parking brake equipment, are available through all Volvo commercial vehicle distributors which will be the only approved fitting sources.

The cost of the conversion kit, plus labour will be approximately £210 dependent on the condition of the chassis being converted. Before a chassis can be given a manufacturer's plate for 24 tons it will have to be inspected and approved by a Volvo representative.

York Trailers' Truck Equipment Division has announced a similar upgrading in its third-axle conversion units by standardizing on high-capacity metric bearing sizes. In order to maintain a convenient bogie axle spread on the 24 ton conversion, the axle loading ratio has been changed from 55-45 per cent to 50-50 per cent.

Many existing third-axle conversions can be modified at any York branch to comply with the new regulations.
