• A sharp recovery in the number of public service vehicle drivers employed in 1970 was reported in the Commons. According to figures given to Mr Leslie Spriggs (Labour, St Helens), the number of psv drivers employed in 1970 was 98,168. This compared with 94,835 in 1969, 96,939 in 1968, 99.166 in 1967 and 99,128 in 1966. Figures for 1971 were not yet available. Mr Robin Chichester Clark, Parliamentary Secretary for Employment, said the Ministry was co-operating with the RTITB in a scheme to train unemployed psv drivers for the new hgv licence. Training was free and trainees received allowances.
