CAUTIONARY TALE: a representative of one of the commercial vehicle manufacturers was sitting happily at the Hilton last week listening to C-licensed operators being told all about the regulations that their vehicles will soon have to meet for brakes, plating and testing, when suddenly a horrid thought came to him. His company ran its own C-licensed vehicles, too, and he was pretty certain that (a) nobody had thought about the need for them to meet the regs and (b) quite a few of them would probably not meet the requirements without modification. Panic! As a special treat, and for this occasion only, I will allow operators to have a very polite laugh at the manufacturer's expense. But don't make a habit of it. The whole thing is all too horribly near home.
