• Two men from a Liverpool haulage firm will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 26 January to answer charges of smuggling more than 25,000 litres of untaxed diesel into the UK from the Republic of Ireland.
Kevin Halligan and Anthony Joseph Long, both of Merseyside, had already appeared twice at South Sefton magistrates before their adjourned Crown Court appearance on 15 December (CM 3ROAL3 uLL 9 Dec 1998). rt$T1NG LIITT \f,
They were arrested last June after 40 Customs and Excise officers from the National Investigation Service and the North-West Collection Fraud District followed one of the firm's tankers from the Belfast-Liverpool ferry on Tuesday 9 June in an operation called Starched.
