Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• North Yorkshire police have dropped drivers' hours charges against HatTogate-based haulier Manton Transport following a Leeds County Court judgment which described a raid on the company's premises as "negligent and malicious.' (CM 12-18 November 1998). Manton Transport was awarded more than £15,000 in damages against North Yorkshire police after the 1996 raid was described as "exceeding the limits of the search warrant which was limited to tachograph charts".

This judgment led to the

adjournment of a case at Harrogate magistrates court scheduled for Monday 9 November, when Manton drivers were due to be interviewed over drivers' hours.

PC Dave Foster of North Yorkshire police says no appeal will be made against the decision.
