South Wales haulier for a licence for his new company, Simon Ledbeater Transport 2000, was turned down after

South Wales Traffic Com missioner David Dixon revoked the licence held by a previous company and disqualified the principal director of both companies from holding an 0licence for three months.

Cowbridge-hased Simon Ledheater Transport 2000 sought a new international licence for one vehicle and two trailers.

Ledbeater said that the old company, Simon Ledbeater Transport, ran into financial difficulties after losing a contract with British Steel.

After the Commissioner had said that accounts requested in August had not been forthcoming, Ledbeater said he had not had the funds to pay the accountant and he could not ask him to

do something if he was unable to pay for it.

Vehicles had been leased from Volvo but he had returned some of them when the old company ran into trouble. He now had one vehicle which he was committed to paying off for five years.

He faced bankruptcy if he was unable to keep up the payments on that vehicle. He owed money to creditors and he was looking to the new business to help him repay his debts.

His mother was prepared to back him financially in his new venture, Ledbeater added, and he had obtained the services of a traffic consultant to ensure that it was a success.

Refusing the new licence on financial grounds, and making the revocation and disqualification orders, the Commissioner warned that Ledbeater needed to put the old company into liquidation but could be disqualified as a director as a result.
