on a Directive to reduce the emissions of goods vehicles under 3.5 tonnes and passenger vehicles with up to nine seats. It will apply to vehicles submitted for type approval from 1 October next year.
The limits will cover newly registered vehicles from 1 October 1994. The limits for vehicles under 1,700kg will be: 5.17g/km for CO; 1.4g/km for HC and NOX; and 0.19g/km for particulates. For vehicles over 1,700kg the limits will be: 6.9g/km for CO; 1.7g/km for HC and NOX; and 0.25g/km for particulates.
Even stricter limits are in the pipeline — ministers will decide on these by the end of next year.
El EC commerce minis ters have agreed on a Directive controlling the transport of explosives used for civilian purposes which requires advance notification of transit countries.
