Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A powered-pallet delivery vehicle for carrying goods in crowded urban areas is one of the interesting ideas in the British Road Services (BRS) 1988 calendar from masters degree postgraduate students in automotive design at the Royal College of Art (CM 22 December-6 January).

David Cutcliffe has designed the pallet vehicle which uses the batteries mounted in the pallet to power the manned vehicle and a memory containing details of the pallet's load and destination.

The pallet automatically couples to the vehicle and then links up with a driver information system and a stock control system at the company's warehouses and stores. Another design, from student T Jelec, shows a small urban delivery vehicle with an aerodynamic door-less cab, and curtain-sided integral bodywork. All the vehicles in the calendar give the students' impression of how trucks and light vans may appear in the year 2028, and were commissioned by BRS for its 40th anniversary.
