• Ford has confirmed that it is actively working on a small, high-speed diesel engine which is expected to be offered in its recently-launched, P100 Sierrabased pickup in about 12 months time (see Roadtest, page 36).
It appears likely that the little diesel engine will have indirect, rather than direct injection, and will have a capacity of 1.8 litres. It will also be turbocharged.
The new diesel is expected to be based on Ford's existing 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated diesel engine, used in its Fiesta and Escort diesel vans. Ford is not saying if the 1.8-litre engine will be available in its carderived vans.
