British Rail to supply 800 Sherpa vans and minibuses, to be delivered during the early part of this year. The order comprises 200 and 300 Series vans, mini-buses, dropsides and crew cabs which will join BR's fleet of over 7,000 vehicles.
Most of the Sherpas will be built to British Rail's specifications and they will all be powered by diesel engines with the two-litre Di engine in the 200 Series unitrs, and the 2.5-litre engine in the 300 Series.
During 1987 the Birmingham-based van builder produced and sold a record 20,000 vehicles. Exports tripled compared with 1986 to more than 3200, vehicles, thanks to the increased sales on the Continent achieved through FR's tie-up with Daf and its Leyland-Daf connections.
According to managing director Graham Morris, the success of 1987 augurs well for the company and its employees in 1988. "We have had a tremendous year and now that we are part of Leyland Daf, we have the resources and backing to build on success."
