The management and staff of Premier Travel have made a buyout bid for the Cambridgebased bus and coach company, which has been recommended to the shareholders by the directors. This is despite the fact that Cambus managing director Paul Merryweather was on the verge of tying up a takeover deal just before Christmas.
Premier's founder, Arthur Lainson, says that the new deal will give the company a continuing identity and autonomy. His management team plans to take control of the group from 10 February. The proposed line-up will be director and chief engineer Roy Moore; company secretary Bill Burnett; assistant general manage Ian Roberts; manager David Hurry, and staff representatives Mick Northfield and Tony Hall, who are both former drivers.
LI Cambus has just taken delivery of seven new Optare City Pacer mini-buses worth £400,000 as the first instalment of a 13-vehicle order.
