• Bunzl Transportation is back on the takeover trail with the acquisition of Robson's Distribution Services, the warehousing and distribution company, for £14 million, The move comes just a fortnight after Bunzl revealed its plans to buy TIR operator and freight forwarder Thompson Jewitt International, and the specialist warehousing firm Clarence and Company for a total of £2.4 million.
Bunzl's purchase of RDS will depend on the satisfactory assignment of certain leasehold interests from Robson's onwers United Glass, but it is expected to go through this month, when Robson's will enter into a long-term contract for the continued supply of transport and warehousing services to UG.
Robson's operates 10 warehouses throughout the UK, as well as a fleet of some 200 vehicles and 400 trailers. For the financial year ended 28 November 1987, Robson's pretax profits are expected to be some 22.5 million, while its nett assets are expected to be approximately £6 million.
