I can't imagine why anyone should want to spit on the live terminal of an electric grinding machine — an anti-social habit at best — but a motor mechanic who did so discovered that it was unwise. A blue flash from the machine went down his throat and punctured the windpipe in his left lung, collapsing both lungs.
The result was 10 days in intensive care in a Merseyside hospital.
