SUZUKI now claims that its SJ410 range of four-wheel-drive vehicles is the third best selling 4x4 vehicle in the UK behind Land Rover and Range Rover. Minor changes have been made for 1984.

Front disc brakes are now standard, offering better braking performance particularly in offroad conditions, where disc units are less affected by water or mud.

Interior changes include the fitting of a dash-mounted warning light indicating whenever four-wheel drive is engaged, redesigned and retrimmed front seats on all models, and the fitting of wider and thicker seat backs to the SJ410 passenger car models. An external opening handle has also been added to the rear door of the open-top canvas version, which is lockable.

All SJ models are powered by the ohc four-cylinder petrol engine rated at 34kW (45bhp) which is coupled to a four-speed synchromesh box with a twospeed constant-mesh transfer box.

Suzuki has recently doubled its four-wheel-drive production capacity and now produces 600,000 light vehicles per year.

The comapny is fourth in the Japanese domestic market, where in the 12 months up to March 1983 it registered an impressive 458,635 vehicles. In addition, Suzuki claims to sell more four-wheel-drive vehicles than all the other Japanese manufacturers put together in the Japanese 4x4 sector.
