Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

shaped at the same time, and the move in to the next pair is controlled by really fine limit indexing.

Profile grinding, giving as it does a far higher degree of accuracy in tooth pitch and shape than any other method, is a refinement of gear manufacture. As a result of this high precision, such gears are understandably expensive.

High-speed worm gearing also calls for this high degree of accuracy and this operation is carried out on a machine based on the lines of a screw cutting lathe. Again the abrasive wheel is trimmed to the profile required by mechanically-operated diamond tools.

The worm shaft and wheel has served our industry well for many years and the casehardened steel worm and phosphor-bronze wheel is still a reliable combination for high speed, durability and smooth running, and without doubt owes much of its success to the accuracy of profile grinding.
