Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A WARNING that the city's municipal bus system might have to be scrapped was given to Dundee Corporation transport committee after it agreed last month to an increase in bus fares.

Cllr. Alex. Mackenzie said it would be impossible to keep on going to the Traffic Commissioners with applications to raise fares. The committee should make every possible effort to see what economies could be made by looking closely at costs and by cutting mileages.

If it were not possible to economize then the committee would have to think seriously of getting rid of the transport undertaking altogether and handing it over to someone else, added Cllr. Mackenzie.

The committee agreed that the minimum fare of 4d. should remain unchanged, but that the 6d. and 8d. fares should be increased by Id. and the 10d. fare by 2d.

Bailie Harry Reilly; transport convener, said that he doubted if private enterprise would do any better. They, too, were constantly going to the Commissioners for fare changes.
