Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FOLLOWING the introduction of 14 new AEC Green Line coaches painted in a completely new livery of pastel grey with green waistband (described in The Commercial Motor of October 29), London Transport has rehabilitated one of the 13-year-old AEC Regal IV RF-class coaches as an experiment. The coach has been fitted with twin headlamps and painted in a livery similar to the new coaches.

However, no decision has been taken as to whether to adopt this livery for the entire Green Line fleet. At the time that the first of the new RC coaches was demonstrated to the Press, it was stated that the experimental livery would not be extended to the existing coach fleet, It would seem that LTB is having second thoughts.

Personally, I think that the extension of the new livery to the entire Green Line fleet is a desirable development. Quite apart from the distinctive appearance the new livery gives to the coaches, most other operators distinguish between buses and coaches.

Meanwhile the rehabilitated RF stands forlorn at Chiswick, awaiting the Board's decision.

Following complaints from many passengers, buses on London Transport route 73 are now showing the ultimate destination at the rear again. However the rear "via" blind has not been reinstated, the space being occupied by a giant "73".

Considering that a "via" blind appears above the rear entrance anyway, I think a satisfactory compromise has now been reached. The rear "via" indicator is always rather misleading to strangers, who often do not realize that a bus has already passed a destination shown on the blind or, more often than not, is turning short of that point. F.K.M.
