A PROPOSAL that id. be added to Inall bus fares was rejected by Newcastle upon Tyne Transport Committee last week. Instead, they called for a scheme which ivould increase fares only duritig certain periods.

The new proposals, which are expected to be considered by the committee next week, provide for Id. increase in fares after 6.30 p.m. on weekdays, 1 p.m. on Saturdays and all day Sunday.

Cllr. W. Kirkup, who suggested the revised scheme, said that this would free such "necessary " travelling as 'workpeople's journeys and housewives' shop ping trips. Criticizing, the original scheme, Cllr. Kirkup said that it would bring in about 31 times as much as was needed. .

No change was proposed in the concessions to unemployed pensioners and blind people.
