Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE latest addition to the range of sprayingmachines produced by Thomas Coleman and Sons, Ltd., Alfreton Road, Derby, is a 1,000-gallon tar and bitumen distributor.

A Petters air-cooled single-cylindered oil engine drives a pump for circulating and spraying the heated material, and drives the air compressor serving the oil burners. The equipment can be mounted on any suitable chassis, either lorry or trailer.

The material can he rapidly heated in the heat-insulated tank by twin oilburners operating in U-type flues, The heated material can then be circulated by the Coleman rotary pump, which is driven by a Petters single-cylindered oil engine through a distribution manifold of ample cross-section.

This is designed to ensure a constant pressure across the spraying width. The excess flow returns from the other end of the manifold to the top of the tank. Pressure in the manifold is maintained .at 4-5 p.s.i.

Final distribution of the material on to the road surface is by a hall-bearingmounted multi-bladed flapper. The heater vanes strike the hot liquid, breaking it up and driving it down in the form of a tine spray.

Control valves, pump and main pipework are enclosed within the tank extension, through which pass the burner flues and chimneys. All components arc easily accessible and the distributor manifold is hinged to give easy access to taps, jets and so on.
