Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AREVIEW of its work during the war, issued by the, British Rubber Federation refers to synthetic rubber as; perhaps not as good as the natural product, but.that it may be so in time. It regards' the American production of, synthetic as one of the war's colossal achievements. Early in 1944, the whole output of the British rubber industry_ will Consist of three-quarters of the synthetic product and a quarter of natural rubber.

The teChnical, staffs of the Federation's 289 members have been working for Rubber Control, without payment, 4.V1 through a Technical Advisory Committee under the chairmanship of Mr. S. A. Brazier, manager of Dunlop's technical department in Manchester.

The Federation represents 24 trade associations, and it is divided into' 24 Panels covering all phases of the rubber industry, whilst a Synthetic Committea. has been formed to deal with the special problems anticipatedin the early use of synthetic rubber. The net result has been to reeluce the consumption of natural rubber, despite a considerable increase in products, to a • little less than one:third of what it was before the problem was tackled by the Federation..

Pioneer Pioneer development work has been aided by a special allocation of some 50 tons of synthetic rubber from America, which was distributed' to manufacturers, and reports of the results have been printed by the M.O.S. in h special series of " S " eirculars issued to rubber manufacturers An important point is that it takes rather more synthetic to replace each ton of natural rubber, because it is not possible to use as much of the reclaim material.
