THE FREIGHT Transport Association (FTA) wants operators to wile to their MPs about the impact of rising fuel prices on their businesses as it campaigns for the Chancellor to scrap the 2p/ht rise in duty planned for April.
James Hookham, MD of policy and communication at the FTA, says pressure from MPs who have heard from operators in their constituencies might help convince the government that fuel duty is too high.
The FTA and the Road Haulage Association will meet Darling on Monday.
Hookham says the aim is to persuade him to drop the 2p/lit rise, and also to explain why diesel duty for commercial users should be uncoupled from the duty that is paid by car drivers.
The two trade associations have teamed up with nine other industry organisations, including the Federation of Small Businesses, the AA and the RAC, to ensure they send a uniform message to the government.
