• Motor vehicle traffic during the third quarter of last year was up by 3%, compared with the same period in 1985, according to the latest figures from the DTp.
There was a 3% increase in light van and car traffic. Heavy goods vehicle traffic rate by 2%, but bus and coach traffic bfell by 1%.
Within the heavy truck category, five-axle artic and fouraxle rigid traffic increased by 25% and 3% respectively, reflecting the continued growth in 38-tonne GCW operations. The traffic of four-a3;le artics, however, fell by 4%.
