• A fleet of 41 new Mercedes 709D vans worth over £0.5 million is to enter service with overnight express courier, Elan.
The first dozen vans to be liveried have been despatched to depots in Bristol, Manchester and Northern Ireland. The remainder will be based at the Birmingham, Heston, Leeds and Northampton depots.
Elan is one of the first major express carriers to place a large order for this Mercedes model, which will be used to supplement and gradually replace its existing fleet of 307D diesel vans. Elan's larger depots are increasing their workloads and the intention is to utilise the vans on the outlying routes where the economies of high mileage and greater carrying capacity can be used to best advantage.
