The partnership set out to develop a trailer tough enough for ferry operation, with the lowest possible lifecycle cost. The design also has to withstand high-frequency loading with fork-lifts. The triaxle units have upgraded side skins, heavy-duty raves, under-run bumpers and support leg bracings, and also reinforced rear cross-members and pick-up plates. The coupling box is recessed, and the kick strip is of 3mrn galvanised steel rather than aluminium, running 400mm high. Flooring is constructed of 30mm laminated hardwood; three rows of load-restraint tracks are flush with the 45mm Kemlite walls.

The tra4er weighs 7.4 tonnes, 400kg more than a conventional design. The insulation is said to hold temperature to within VC for 24 hours.
