• European transport commissioner Karel Van Miert has rejected calls by the International Road Transport Union for restrictions on the movement of Swiss and Austrian trucks in the EC.
The IRU called for restrictions in retaliation for moves by the Swiss and Austrian authorities to limit the movements of Community trucks through their territories. But Van Miert believes a solution to the problems is only possible in discussions covering all forms of transport, not just trucks.
