Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QI was recently told by the police that I had exceeded my total number of driving hours in my six days. I had driven for nearly 58 hours. I know that I cannot drive more than 90 hours in a fortnight but what rule governs the weekly period? Incidentally, I started driving on the Thursday and stopped on Tuesday night.

MB. Bromley AThe EC regulations define a working 'week' as from midnight Sunday to midnight Sunday and in a 'week' you may drive nine hours a day — which may be extended to 10 hours twice a week.

The regulations then say that after six daily driving periods you must take a weekly rest. So, if you start your six daily driving periods, on a Thursday, having taken your weekly rest on Tuesday or Wednesday, then you can drive as follows: Thursday 10 hours Friday 10 hours Saturday 9 hours Sunday 9 hours Monday 10 hours Tuesday 10 hours Total 58 hours And that is legal. The reason is that you have spread your daily driving over two EC weeks and each week you are allowed 2x10 hours. So your police officer is wrong!
